Art Crush September 2023 | Winston Salem, NC

This September’s Art Crush was like a downtown block party of art, music, and yummy food. I’ve loved seeing how The Arts District of Winston Salem is revitalizing the downtown arts scene with Art Crush every third Friday of the month.

The Arts District of Winston Salem’s mission statement says it all:

“We are the Arts District of Winston-Salem. Art is what we do for a living and it’s what makes us feel alive. We want everyone to experience art in ways that bring joy, help artists challenge and change culture, and make the world a little better through beauty.”

That sentiment of art for all is truly felt at the new monthly Art Crush events. My husband and I were shocked by the incredible turnout of our Winston Salem community, breathing new life into the Arts District with talented fellow vendors and enthusiastic patrons alike.

Each Art Crush is curated by a local artist. This September’s Art Crush guest Visual Curator was my friend and fellow local artist, Annie Grimes Williams. Annie and I often show at the same events on the art fair circuit. She is also one of the founders and organizers of my favorite local event, Ardmore Art Walk. I was honored to have been invited to exhibit in this month’s Art Crush. It was such a great opportunity to share my artwork with my own community and to join the party downtown.

Thank you to everyone who took a piece of my artwork home with them. I’m always grateful when my work resonates, but it’s even more rewarding when it resonates with my own friends, neighbors, and community.

I was also thrilled to find the perfect home for my original cityscape and one of my largest works to-date, “Winston Salem Dusk.” This sweet collector is bringing this work home with her to Indiana to forever remind her of her beloved hometown of Winston Salem, NC.
